Ministry, Sailing, and a Shipyard

It has been a very full month. We started off the first week of April wrapping up our time in Liberia, Africa and starting our sail to The Canary Islands. It was an eight-day sail to arrive in The Canary Islands. I was a part of a team standing watch in the bridge for 8 hours each day. 4 hours in the day and 4 hours each night. Upon arriving in the Canary Islands, we did 10 days of outreach. The last week of April the ship moved into a local shipyard and came out of the water for its annual maintenance period, which will last 4 weeks. The Marine Operations Crew and some other essential crew (such as some of the cooks), totaling around 130 people remained onboard the vessel to take care of the maintenance. As a Deck Cadet, I am staying onboard and will mainly be working alongside the Safety Officer to make sure everyone is maintaining a safe work environment while completing all our maintenance projects. The remaining members of our nearly 400-person crew, all departed the ship to continue doing land-based ministry during this 4-week period. They have been divided into teams, some of which are staying throughout the Canary Islands, while others have been sent to other parts of the world for these 4 weeks. Please be praying for both the teams out continuing ministry, as well as those of us staying on the ship to get her ready for another year of effective ministry.

Several times on our sail from Liberia to The Canary Islands, we had dolphins come and play at our bow. This is always a crew favorite while sailing.

We arrived in The Canary Islands just in time for my birthday. I was able to get ice cream with some of my crew friends to celebrate. They also threw me a party beforehand, complete with decorations and cake.

Preparing food boxes to give away to needy families in The Canary Islands. We were able to supply around 100 families with food for the next week or two. It was a wonderful experience to be able to hand them out and see their gratefulness.
