This month has been a really great month. The first 3 weeks of May we finished up our 4 weeks in The Canary Islands shipyard. As a part of my Cadet program (like an internship to be an officer) I spend time shadowing an officer in a different role each month. For the month of May, I was working with the Safety Officer. It is his job to make sure everything onboard the ship is done in a safe manner. It was such a great role to be in during dry dock. I was able to visit most of the job sites, observe what they were doing, and ask a lot of questions. I was able to see much more than just the jobs that the deck department (the department I work in) was doing. It was a great way to learn more about the ship and how it works. Because I wasn’t assigned to a “normal” work project, I was also able to do random jobs that they needed help with. One of these jobs was craning. I helped crane a lot of items on and off the ship during the month, which I find to be a lot of fun. Even though I found this month to be a fun experience, it was a lot of hard work. But the hard work is so worth is as now the ship is ready for another year at sea sharing the love of God.
Day 7 - God Rested
Once our 4 weeks in the shipyard ended, we left The Canary Islands and made a 4 day sail up to mainland Spain. The last part of that sail was making our way 5 hours up a river to the City of Seville, a beautiful old European city. Upon arrival here, we began what Logos Hope calls Sabbath Week. Each year after its 4-week maintenance period ends, they take a week to pour into the ship’s crew with teaching, worship, and prayer times. It is a time to hear from God and be refreshed before returning to our intense ministry schedule on June 3rd. We are currently in the midst of that week, and it has been such a revitalizing time, both spiritually and physically.
